There’s a version of the retirement tax return that involves digging out statements, squinting at gross-versus-net figures, and copying numbers into the right boxes. This isn’t that guide.

Here’s the thing most people don’t realise: your pension provider already reports your pension details to Revenue, and so does the Department of Social Protection for your State Pension. The numbers exist. The job isn’t to find them, it’s to get them onto your return without doing it all by hand. That’s exactly what we’ve built.

The short version

Open a FastTax.ie account, make us your tax agent, and your pension and State Pension details flow in from Revenue automatically. You add any income Revenue doesn’t already hold e.g. rent, foreign interest, a UK pension. We can even have an expert check it and file it for you. For the pension part of your return, it’s about as close to automatic as Irish tax gets.

How it works, step by step

  1. Set up your account and choose a plan. For most retired filers we recommend Plan 3, where we check and file the whole return for you, no need to log-into Revenue’s ROS.
  2. Make FastTax.ie your tax agent. It’s a quick step, and it’s what lets us bring your details through from Revenue. Just follow the prompt in our system.
  3. Your pension details pull through automatically. Your pension provider’s name, your gross annual pension, and the income tax, USC and PRSI already deducted. All in, without you finding a single figure. Your State Pension details come through the same way.
  4. You add anything Revenue doesn’t already have. This is the part only you can see: rental income, interest from EU banks or savings platforms, dividends, a UK or foreign pension. Plain-English questions walk you through it. See more: Handled for you vs Your Responsibility.
  5. We check your reliefs. Age Tax Credit, age exemption, medical expenses, nursing home relief – claimed as standard, not left behind.
  6. An expert reviews it and files it. A qualified tax professional checks the whole return before it goes to Revenue. If anything looks off, a real person rings you.

Why this is easier than doing it yourself on ROS

It’s possible to file your own Form 11 directly on ROS, and some people happily do. But even on ROS you’re the one locating your pension figures, entering them in the right panels, and making sure the tax already deducted is credited correctly. Our version brings those figures in for you and puts them where they belong. You’re left with just the parts that are genuinely yours to declare and an expert checking the lot.

“But what about my annual statement?”

Keep it, it’s useful for your own records, and handy for checking a figure looks right. But you don’t need to decode it for your return, and you don’t need to send it to anyone. The numbers that matter are already coming from Revenue to our system.
